An Introduction to Abstract Art | 8 Sessions
Discover new ways of seeing and creating through LACA Art Academy’s Abstract Art I program. Designed for individuals interested in exploring art beyond realistic representation, this course introduces the fundamental principles and history of abstraction.
Across eight sessions, students will explore a variety of artistic approaches, from abstract still life and music inspired compositions to landscape abstraction, gold foil gilding and printmaking. Through artist appreciation, demonstrations and guided practice, students will discover how different artists transform everyday subjects, natural forms and ideas into expressive visual compositions.
Students will also experiment with the decorative qualities of gold foil, learning how metallic surfaces can introduce contrast, pattern and visual interest to an artwork. Through linocut printmaking techniques, they will explore repetition, shape, texture and the creative possibilities of transferring images onto a surface.
With step by step guidance from our instructor, students will experiment with different materials and techniques while developing their understanding of colour relationships, composition and personal expression. Each session focuses on a distinct creative exploration throughout the program.

Class Size: Minimum 2 participants, maximum 6 participants
Materials: Standard materials are provided. Additional materials and canvases larger than 16 × 20 inches must be purchased separately.
